Jupiter, a domestic robot developed in Korea, can reportedly emulate emotions, body language, and other stuff, including recite stories to the kids. IBM announced that it will offer a chip-based encryption method that has the potential to significantly simplify and reduce the costs of how data is secured on computers, PDAs, cell phones and other electronic devices. The “Secure Blue” technology encrypts or scrambles all data it processes via a part of a microprocessor designed specifically for this reason. According to IBM, the new technology can resist the trickery of even the most skilled hackers.

Karrier Communications announced the release of its first JAVA-based version of the IntelliGolf golf scoring software. IntelliGolf has been completely rewritten in JAVA (MIDP 2.0), removing the need for continued use of AppForge’s Crossfire (Booster) software on Sony Ericsson’s P900-series of phones. The IntelliGolf software replaces pencil and paper golf scoring, wagering, and statistics gathering on the golf course. Users enter their scores, wagers, and club selection on their handheld. IntelliGolf totals all scores, tabulates all wagers, and synchronizes with the included Windows desktop software.

Palm announced that the Humane Society of the United States is using Palm Treo smartphones to increase workflow productivity by enabling employees to collect information while out in the field and share it with press, customers, and colleagues on the spot. For emergency management and general business, the nation’s largest animal-protection organization relies on Treo smartphones with Bluetooth headsets, running on the nationwide Cingular Wireless EDGE network with Good Technology’s robust wireless email software and service, GoodLink.

Wichita Public Schools is standardizing on the wireless Palm TX handheld computer for its seventh-grade technology program. The school district purchased nearly 730 Palm TX handhelds as part of a major renovation of its technology curriculum for middle schools. These Palm TX handhelds join thousands of other Palm handhelds in use by students, teachers and administrators throughout the school district. The Palm TX features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies for wireless communications. The district will begin implementing the handhelds into the seventh-grade technology curriculum next year. The handhelds will be used in the district’s 14 middle schools and two alternative schools.
