RadioShack’s embattled president and CEO, David Edmondson, resigned Monday following questions about his resume’s accuracy. The Fort Worth electronics retailer said in a statement that its board had accepted his resignation and had promoted Claire Babrowski, who most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, to acting CEO. The Fort Worth company said last week that it would hire outside lawyers to investigate errors in Edmondson’s resume, including claims that he earned two college degrees for which the school he attended has no records. That investigation won’t continue since Edmondson quit, the company said.

An interesting slice of Palm history has recently been uploaded to Google Video. The Palm Pilot Story is a video from a lecture at the Computer History Museum back in 2002. The video features Jeff Hawkins, Donna Dubinsky, and Ed Colligan talking about this story of launching Palm Computing and the first successful handheld computer. The video runs for 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Chapura announced the availability of an upgrade to its popular Outlook synchronization software, PocketMirror. Chapura has added productivity-enhancing features to all Palm OS editions of PocketMirror 4.0, including PocketMirror Standard, PocketMirror Standard XT, PocketMirror Professional and PocketMirror Professional XT. Each edition of PocketMirror synchronizes Outlook Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes with the built-in PIM software built into Palm OS devices.

Microsoft has developed a Skype-style free Internet voice service for mobile phones that analysts believe could wipe billions off the market value of operators such as Vodafone. The service is included in a mobile version of Microsoft Office Communicator due to be released this year. It will take the form of a VOIP (voice-over internet protocol) application that allows Office users to make free voice calls over Wi-Fi enabled phones running Windows Mobile software. It uses the Internet as a virtual phone network as well as accessing email, PowerPoint, and other Office applications.

According to Variety Magazine, Studios aren’t seeing the interest in the UMD format that Sony had hoped for, and now Paramount, Warner Home Entertainment, and even Sony itself are cutting back on releases. With the average release selling only 50,000 units, sales are beyond sluggish. Let’s face it Sony, UMD is a niche format. When you think about buying movies, you think about buying DVDs.

The developers of the hugely popular online role playing game Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix, banned hundreds of accounts in an effort to cease the practice of selling FFXI Gil for real money. The developers had also hoped to bring down what they believed to be inflated prices of the in-game currency. Farmers are people who spend all day playing Final Fantasy XI with the sole purpose of earning gil that can be sold for real money. After the investigation, over 700 accounts were disabled and over 300 billion gil was removed in order to return the in-game economy to normal. In terms of real dollars that amount of Gil would be worth about $5,000,000 USD.

Oxygen Software announced the release of version 2.7.8 of Oxygen Phone Manager II for Symbian OS smartphones. This application is designed for smartphone owners who can now easily manage the content and settings of their mobile phone from a personal computer. The program is compatible with almost all models of smartphones based on Symbian OS platform and can communicate with the phone through different types of connections, including cables, Infrared, or Bluetooth devices. Version 2.7.8 introduces support for Samsung SGH-D720, Samsung SGH-D720S, Samsung SGH-D728, and Samsung SGH-D730 smartphones.
