Research In Motion has learned that a complaint alleging patent infringement has been filed against them in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Texas by Visto Corporation. Visto is alleging infringement of four patents and seeking an injunction and monetary damages. Visto has already filed patent complaints against several companies in the industry, including Microsoft, Good Technology, Smartner, and Sproqit. Visto filed its complaint against RIM immediately following a jury verdict in its litigation against Seven Networks. RIM has been monitoring Visto’s litigation against other companies in the industry and, based on prior art and actual products in market, RIM believes Visto’s patents are invalid.

This is the Beta version of Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0. The RTM version of this emulator will be released with the upcoming Windows CE 6.0 release. This Emulator has the same executables and DLLs as the 1.0 emulator that came with Visual Studio 2005 RTM and has upgraded performance and some new features. This install does not replace the emulator installed with Visual Studio 2005. The installer that comes with this preview only copies the relevant binaries to the user’s system.

The market for handheld computers continued their decline, now reaching nine consecutive quarter of year-over-year decline, according to International Data Corp. According to IDC’s Worldwide Handheld Qview report, worldwide shipments of handheld devices totaled just 1.5 million units in the first quarter of 2006, down 22.3 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
