
SplashData announced the release of SplashPhoto 3.0, a mobile image viewer for Palm OS handhelds. New features include a customizable List View and Thumbnail View, support for Sony Clie Hi Res (320×320) displays, support for Sony Clie Hi Res + (320×480) displays, support for 12-bit color displays (Handspring Treo), ability to view JPEG images stored on external memory card, support for hardware JPEG acceleration (Clie NR70), support for future OS5/ARM based handhelds, conduit installs images directly to external memory, and an auto-run slideshow when handheld is charging.

Air2Web has integrated Air2Web’s Mobile Internet Platform with Nokia’s Multimedia Messaging Center (MMSC) which enables sending multimedia messages from Air2Web’s Atlanta-based servers to Nokia Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) servers located in Dallas, TX and Hong Kong. Trials are underway with carriers in the US and Latin America. MMS applications use a rich combination of text, audio, graphics, image, animation, and video.

tDevice introduced the Q-Pad for Palm m500 series. The Q-Pads are PDA accessories for mobile professionals, combining the function of a protective leather case (with inner armored frame), an integrated keyboard, and a viewing stand.

Handspring announced that debitel, Europe’s largest network-independent telephone company and Germany’s third largest mobile communication provider, will immediately begin working with Handspring to market the Treo 270 throughout Germany. Through this arrangement, the parties anticipate that debitel will sell Treo 270 with mobile phone contracts for T-Mobile, D2 Vodafone, and E-Plus networks at an average retail price of EUR 499 for Treo 270.

Karrier Communications announced IntelliGolf version 6.1 for Palm handhelds. IntelliGolf is golf scorecard software. The IntelliGolf v6.1 scorecard software replaces pencil and paper golf scoring, wagering, and statistics gathering on the golf course. Users enter their scores, wagers, and basic statistics, and IntelliGolf totals their final scores, tabulates all wagers, and synchronizes with the included Windows desktop software for viewing performance graphs and trends.

DataViz, Inc. announced Version 5.0 of its Palm OS business software, Documents To Go. Documents To Go Version 5.0 allows users to create and edit PowerPoint compatible presentations on the handheld. Other highlights of Documents To Go Version 5.0 include a new handheld word processor and support for high-resolution screen displays. The application is ready for use today and will also be compatible with future ARM-based devices running Palm OS 5. DataViz also introduced Documents To Go Premium Edition. Documents To Go Premium Edition incorporates the ability to create, synchronize, and edit word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation files on the handheld, as well as synchronize email with attachments, PDF files, pictures, and Excel-like charts all in one package.

PocketSensei announced the immediate availability of SilverScreen 2.8, an upgrade to the application launcher for Palm OS devices. The software retains the simplicity and familiar layout of Palm

CNET News.com has an article on Danger’s Hiptop, a combination of cell phone and Web-browsing handheld. According to the article, the company had hoped to have the device in the hands of consumers by the beginning of this month, but it’s unlikely to be widely available until next month. The article says that initially, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion should not feel much of a threat from Danger, but the device’s arrival could pose problems for Palm, which gets much of its business from consumers. Palm has said it will offer a handheld later this year that can make phone calls using an earpiece.
