New Palm handheld rumors

Palm Infocenter has various sources reporting in with rumors of a new sub-$100 model Palm handheld to be released later this year. Some details are conflicting, but word is it’ll have 2MB of memory, SD/MMC slot, and will come in an all-white plastic casing.

Treo 300 now selling

CNET News.com reports Handspring has begun selling its latest Treo Communicator, which combines the attributes of a personal digital assistant and a cell phone. According to the article, the Treo 300 will use Sprint’s new PCS Vision plan for both voice and data services, such as email and Web access. The new device is essentially the same as the Treo 270 except that it’s designed to work on Sprint’s high-speed wireless network.

BankBook4 released

Bahsoft has released BankBook4. Version 4 of this financial tracking software for the Palm OS adds scheduled future transactions, scheduled repeating transactions, overdraft alarms, payee autofill, account limits, a tax-tip calculator, and QuickBooks compatibility.

Mini Keyboard review

Palm Infocenter has a review of the Sony PEGA-KB20 Mini Keyboard. According to the review, “Unlike most other mini-keyboards, the KB20 doesn’t clip onto the bottom of the handheld. Instead, it clips onto the front and a cable reaches down to plug into the HotSync port. It fits over the Graffiti area and the hardware buttons but still leaves the Power button exposed.”

32MB upgrade service

PDA Kobo announced development of a 32MB upgrade service for Palm OS machines. According to their press release, PDA Kobo has made 32MB upgrades possible by developing an original driver (Enhanced RAM Disk Driver: ERDD). The upgrade involves replacing the RAM chip and using PDA Kobo’s ERDD (total memory is from 16MB of free area in the main memory combined with an additional 16 MB of extra RAM disk through utilizing an SD Card or Memory Stick in the enhanced memory area).

PANTONE Colors for Palm

Pantone, Inc. announced PANTONE Colors for Palm, Palm OS-compatible software that provides access to information for the 1,114 colors of the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Coated Library. Designed to facilitate the selection of optimal color choices when planning cross-media campaigns, PANTONE Colors provides RGB 0-255 and HTML data, and identifies when PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM Colors are achievable in RGB, CMYK, and PANTONE Hexachrome. PANTONE Colors for Palm requires Palm OS version 3.1 or above and a desktop computer with HotSync software for installation. It does not require a color display to make use of the software and all the data it contains.

Treo 300 to have PCS Vision

Palm Infocenter reports Sprint has announced that its CDMA 2000 wireless network, which it is calling PCS Vision, will be available next week and that the Handspring Treo 300 will run on the new network. According to the post, Sprint hasn’t given an exact release date, only saying that the Treo 300 and several other new phones will be released “over the next several weeks.”
