
iambic, Inc. announced it has released a new upgraded version of its email client, iambic Mail. The product now supports the most advanced high-resolution-plus Palm OS handheld devices available on the market, including the latest Sony CLIE PEG-NR70 and NR70V series and the Palm OS 5 platform. In addition, iambic Mail 3.0 includes a number of new features such as complete Short Messaging Service (SMS) support, a filtering feature to automatically redirect incoming correspondence to different email accounts, and a Virtual File System (VFS) feature with which users can send and receive any type of attachment directly on the handheld device.

Pacific Microinstruments, Inc. announced a new Web server for PDA and embedded device networks. Based on the Apache Web server framework, the PMI-Nexus provides a Web server and firewall between sets of embedded devices and local PC and workstation networks. The connection between the embedded nodes and the server may be over existing LAN infrastructure, legacy connections such as RS-232, or wireless connections (typically 802.11).

Palm Infocenter reports Standard & Poor’s has announced it will remove Palm, Inc. from it’s S&P 500 index. According to the post, the move was brought about by Palm’s recent low stock price and the fact that its market capitalization, at $585 million, ranks in 496th place on the list.

TeleType GPS version 092002 has been released. New features include faster routing, easier to use map export/managment tools, ability to export maps directly to your PDA, new Points of Interest, XScale support, and aviation enhancements such as: Altitude Relief Maps, flight planner, customizable viewing of important data such as speed, altitude, DTG to waypoint, and more.

PDACookbook has just been updated to version 3. This new version includes a number of enhancements, many of which were requested by users. PDACookbook is available in Lite and Plus versions. The Plus version includes PC desktop software as well as the handheld software, while the Lite version is for handhelds only.
The most requested feature, a menu planning system, is now included in PDACookbook. Create a menu using the Menu Planner to quickly organize future meals. The Menu Plan can then be beamed to another user or exported as a memo. Another much requested feature is the new ability to add nutritional information to any recipe. Other features added include Smart Ingredient Paste, for quickly adding new recipes copied from text sources, such as Web pages; recipe beaming, and shopping list beaming.

Palm Boulevard reports DDH Software has launched a HanDBase Sync Exchange for mobile database users of Palm OS platforms. With HanDBase Sync Exchange, DDH said companies and personal users alike now have the ability to synchronize their HanDBase databases with most backend database programs.

It is a complete solution that offers wireless J2ME components for new wireless handsets from Motorola, Nokia, and Siemens. There is also a mobile component for the Palm OS devices from Palm, Handspring, and Sony. Streamline Mobile’s FinanceStream v2.0 is compiled of not only the mobile components but also an extensive Web console that communicates directly to your device.

Pocket PC Films has forged a long-term partnership with Jon Sheinberg and The Machine, a full-service entertainment consulting company. The two companies will work together to build a board of advisors, facilitate licensing content from providers, and help establish strategic alliances. Under the terms of the agreement, The Machine will work to identify potential advisory board members. These board members will be comprised of leaders in the entertainment industry. The Machine will also work to establish a group of content providers, including major Hollywood studios, producers, and labels, to supply Pocket PC Films with feature film and television content. In addition, The Machine will aid in forming strategic alliances within the entertainment community.
Pocket PC Films currently distributes video programming for use on Pocket PC and Palm OS devices via CD-ROM at retail, as well as through Mobile Content Kiosks at airports, malls, and retail locations.
