RingCare is a new ringtone management solution from GoTreo Software, makers of the popular VolumeCare application. RingCare Mobile allows you to use mp3’s and midi tones for incoming phone calls, text messages and voicemail. It also enables you to to assign unique tones to each contact, phone number, company name and/or contact category and has partial support for Goodlink users. Also available is its companion desktop application for Windows called RingCare Desktop. It will create custom ringtones on your PC from your own music library and transfer them to your Treo.

Resco Explorer for Palm OS has been updated to version 3.1. This new version adds support for local LAN and remote VPN network drive shares over smb. This allows your device to connect to shared folders and drives on compatible PC, Mac and Linux systems. Explorer treats network shares as if they were on a memory card which allows you to encrypt files, pack them into zip archives, move them around the host system or copy them to your Palm. Other updates from Resco include improved ftp performance and compatibility with Documents to Go v10.

AT&T and Apple announced three simple, affordable service plans for iPhone which start at just $59.99 per month. All three plans include unlimited data, Visual Voicemail, 200 SMS text messages, roll-over minutes, unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling, and a specific number of voice minutes. With everything else already included, iPhone customers can easily choose the plan that’s right for them based on the amount of voice minutes they plan to use each month. In addition, iPhone customers can choose from any of AT&T’s standard service plans.

Chapura has released CallsToJournal for Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone editions of Windows Mobile 5 and 6, to help improve the accuracy of the customer’s contact management by more effectively using the information captured in the built-in call log. CallsToJournal software lets owners keep track of conversations on their PC desktop by uploading the call log to Outlook Journal entries, and linking them to the corresponding Outlook Contacts.

Apple and AT&T announced that iPhone users will be able to activate their new iPhones using Apple’s popular iTunes software running on a PC or Mac computer in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated.

Activating iPhone takes only minutes as iTunes guides the user through simple steps to choose their service plan, authorize their credit and activate their iPhone. Once iPhone is activated, users can then easily sync all of their phone numbers and other contact information, calendars, email accounts, Web browser bookmarks, music, photos, podcasts, TV shows and movies just like they do when they sync their iPods with iTunes.

Samsung Electronics is now mass-producing the industry’s first 1.8-inch solid state drives at a whopping 64 gigabytes, making the high-density flash-memory-based drives suitable for widespread ultra-portable laptop use. Samsung’s 64-gigabyte SSD consists of 64 eight-gigabit single-level cell flash memory chips, Samsung says. The company uses a 51nm process technology, which permits fabrication of tiny components, with each chip having circuitry 1/2500th the width of a human hair. However, all that minuscule circuitry comes at a price.

Prices are expected to decrease as adoption rises, and Samsung is working to develop the market for its drives in a variety of new mediums, including digital consumer products such as camcorders, PDAs and printers.

Samsung predicts that over the next three years, larger 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SSDs will also become widely used in standard notebooks and desktop PCs.
