SpaceTime Mathematics has released has released SpaceTime 3.0, its mathematics software for Palm OS and Windows Mobile. SpaceTime provides 2D, 3D, and 4D graphing and MobileCAS technology for computer algebra and calculus. The application can graph 3D and 2D plots with the ability to rotate, move, and zoom graphs in real-time. Its MobileCAS technology is the only computer algebra system ever made for Palm handhelds with built in typesetting for solving algebra and calculus calculations.

Palm has kicked off a recycling program for old or unused cellphones and handhelds. The Palm Environmental program will take any mobile phone model or PDA in any condition with any accessories as well, and make sure they are reasonably reused or recycled. The service is free and will help keep divert waste from landfills and make sure the toxic materials contained in certain electronics can be reclaimed and disposed of properly. The proceeds will fund the program and benefit the Palm Foundation, a charitable organization that supports educational programs.

Complaints over Apple’s use restrictions and recent software update for the iPhone have erupted in two lawsuits alleging Apple and its carrier partner, AT&T, engaged in illegal monopolistic behavior.

Two separate lawsuits were filed Friday in San Jose–one in federal court and the other in state court and both seeking class-action status. The federal case accuses the companies of unfair business practices and violations of antitrust, telecommunications and warranty laws. The state case raises some of the same allegations.

“Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead” star Simon Pegg is poised to play Scotty in the new Star Trek movie. The British comic has been offered the role of the chief engineer, played by James Doohan in the classic TV series, his manager has told BBC News. The film, directed by “Lost” creator JJ Abrams, focuses on the early lives of Captain James T Kirk and Mr Spock.
