SYWARE, developer of mobile database software tools, has released a significantly enhanced new version of its mEnable handheld network product.

mEnable 3 is a cost-effective set of tools that makes it easy to create and operate wireless handheld device networks. Its new features include remote handheld configuration and maintenance, file and folder synchronization, signal strength detection, and the ability to wipe settings and data from lost handhelds. It has been designed for third party system developers, in-house developers, and technical and operations managers.

Proporta has released their Alu-Leather Case, custom designed to protect the TomTom GO 520/720/920. In addition, their Advanced Screen Protector is also available for the TomTom devices.

Some 30,000 applications originally written for the Palm Pilot PDA will soon run on Nokia’s Linux-based Web tablets. The applications will run on top of a virtual machine currently being beta tested by Access for Nokia’s 770, N800 and N810 Internet tablets.

The Garnet VM beta is available now for download from Access, with registration. It has reportedly achieved “80 percent compatibility,” with wider compatibility expected pending user feedback. Feedback will be gathered via an agent built into the VM, and through an online compatibility survey. One big early bug: sound is not supported on the 770.

Mytego.com announced that customer-designed and individually manufactured Tego Skins for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock guitar controllers are now available. Rock-Star wannabees can now design and create their own “skin” to make their newest Guitar Hero controller reflect their own tastes and personal styles and make it look like their own, with their own personal designs, patterns, and photos.

Skins are low-profile, protective, printed adhesive vinyl stick-ons that are applied to the top of a gadget, and are becoming mainstream to personalize all types of portable electronics, from cell phones, smartphones, laptops, calculators, game systems, MP3 players, ipods, satellite radios, etc. Skins typically cover the majority of the device, with specific cut-outs for screens, buttons, keys, etc., and usually have pictures, designs and color patterns printed onto them. Skins can either be premade or predesigned, where the customer simply selects the device and image with no input from the customer, as well as customer-designed, where the customer designs all aspects of the skin.

Mobis Technology, manufacturer of mobile accessories, has releasedd the Just Mobile BluCard BT GPS Receiver, one of the thinnest Bluetooth GPS receivers in the world. Its MediaTek Single Chip, provides 51 channels all-in-view tracking technology, and offers industry-level locating capability powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated for 10 hours of continuous use.

Not all Panasonic Toughbooks are big briefcases, made to withstand the worst that nature has to throw at them. The company also manufactures a series of business-rugged Toughbooks–some of the lightest in the world and just as tough–to meet the demands of corporate and consumer folks who take their computing on the road. Panasonic announced three additions to its ultraportable line, the W7, the Y7 and the T7 tablet, with some necessary internal upgrades.

Laplink and Webroot Software announced a partnership that gives PCmover customers the ability to eliminate spyware and viruses from their old PC before they start transferring applications, files and settings via PCmover–ensuring their new PC remains free of infection. A free 30 day unlimited trial version of Spy Sweeper–the antispyware utility with antivirus tools–will be integrated within the latest version of PCmover.

PhatWare announce PhatNotes for Outlook Edition, the special version of the PhatNotes notes organizer. The new version allows the synchronization of multiple Outlook notes folders with the PhatNotes application on the mobile device.

PhatNotes 5, launched in September, no longer supports direct synchronization with Microsoft Outlook, and the company has received numerous requests from existing and new PhatNotes users to continue offering this feature. PhatNotes for Outlook edition has been created to answer these requests by allowing synchronization directly with Microsoft Outlook 2000 or later.

PhatNotes for Outlook includes the simplified version of PhatNotes for both Windows Mobile Standard (non-touch screen) and Professional/Classic (touch screen) devices. Because Microsoft Outlook does not support password protection and text formatting, these features were removed from PhatNotes for Outlook to provide more reliable synchronization. Further, the PhatNotes desktop software was replaced with Outlook notes synchronization software that supports ActiveSync 4.5 or later on Windows XP and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 on Windows Vista.

The new version of PhatNotes 5 has been released. PhatNotes allows you to easily create, search, and sort text-based notes on your Windows-based Smartphone, Pocket PC, and desktop PC; you can also synchronize notes between multiple platforms, giving you a powerful new way to manage and access personal information on-the-go. The program incorporates all the convenient features found in the previous versions of the company’s notes organizer and adds many new features.

Alltel Wireless and WaveMarket have launched Axcess Family Finder. Parents can now locate children, manage permissions, and receive alerts via the Web or on their mobile phones.

The WaveMarket technology provides Alltel customers with an interactive map to monitor children, providing an extra sense of safety and ease of mind. Through GPS capabilities, Axcess Family Finder is able to locate a child’s phone and give parents instant access to his or her location. Further, parents can create Scheduled Checks around specific locations to receive an automatic notification via text message when the child has arrived at a specific location.
