Resco, a supplier of advanced developer tools and components for mobile devices, announced support for Touch Scroll in MobileForms Toolkit controls. The Touch Scroll feature allows the user to scroll the contents of MobileForms Toolkit controls comfortably, using a thumb.

“Controlling an application with a thumb has already become a common feature for most touch screen mobile devices,” says Vladimr Gregor, sales and marketing manager of Resco. “Now we provide software companies with a platform to further develop this functionality in their custom applications.”

Resco, a supplier of advanced developer components and tools for mobile devices, announced MobileForms Toolkit 2008 Volume 2. The new version of this suite of Visual Studio components designed specifically for mobile devices will be released on June 10th, 2008.

SplashData has announced Mac OS X versions of its SplashMoney personal finance application and SplashID 4 secure password manager. Both applications synchronize with their respective mobile applications. The company also announced a standalone version of SplashMoney for Mac OS X for users that do not have a compatible mobile device.

With SplashMoney, Mac users now have access to a complete personal financial manager that enables them to securely record transactions, track account balances, generate reports and budgets, and manage finances while on the go. SplashMoney features wireless access to online bank accounts–an ideal feature for laptops and smartphones, a streamlined user interface, charting of financial data, the ability to assign icons to transactions, transaction filtering, and bank account reconciliation.

The Mac version of SplashID 4 includes substantial updates such as Web Auto-Fill, Panel and Tree views, and an Auto Search feature that retrieves records simply by entering a few letters in the Find box.

Western Digital announced the introduction and availability of a powerful new internal hard drive called VelociRaptor, the fastest SATA drive available on the market. The new drive is the successor to the WD Raptor series drives but with twice the capacity, increased performance and overall speed. The new WD VelociRaptor offers 300GB of high-performance storage with a spin rate of 10,000 RPM.

In addition, the drive’s new form factor includes a 2.5-inch HDA but ships mounted inside the new WD IcePack to fit nicely inside traditional 3.5-inch frames and allow proper cooling of the drive for maximum and sustained performance.

PhatNotes for Outlook 5.2 for Windows Mobile Classic, Standard and Professional edition is now available. This version of PhatNotes features the ability to configure the software’s “context analyzer” directly on the mobile device – enabling users to adjust their settings while on-the-go. The Context Analyzer feature allows users to access websites, send emails, make phone calls, or even open files or execute applications just by tapping on words that are recognized as website URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, or a custom command.

The use of touchscreens on mobile phones is already soaring, and the introduction of a new line of small computing devices designed to connect people to the Internet is also fueling their use, a manufacturing executive said Thursday.

The touchscreen market will grow to a value of $3.1 billion this year from $2.78 billion last year, said Kevin Chuang, an executive at Swenc Technology, at a conference in Taipei.

Three trends are driving the market, starting with the iPhone craze, he said. But what really boosted volume handset sales was a chip developed by Taiwan’s MediaTek that made it easy for companies to put touchscreens on handsets. MediaTek’s main customers are in China, and the chips have been used in scores of handsets there, he said.
