Resco announced support of the G-sensor (accelerometer) technology used in Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch for rotating screen content. Resco has implemented G-sensor technology in the AdvancedList for .NET CF, a professional list control from Resco MobileForms Toolkit.

Meru Networks has brought new “virtual port” technology to wireless networks allowing each client device to have its own dedicated virtual wireless network. Just as with dedicated ports on a wired switch this allows enterprises to control the wireless resources allocated to each client.

A study by SquareTrade found the iPhone twice as reliable as the Blackberry after one year of ownership. The information was gleaned from the failure rates of 15,000 phones covered under SquareTrade’s warranty plans. The study projects a failure rate for the iPhone, after two years, of between 9.2 and 11.3 percent.

Called Mobile Millennium, a project to turn thousands of mobile phones into traffic monitors, opens to the public on Monday. Researchers from Nokia and the University of California in Berkeley hope volunteers will download a free Java program that computes their movement and location, then transmits that information to the project’s servers. The software uses algorithms to determine when people are moving, stuck in traffic or stopped by the roadside for a breather.

The new MicroPass 4001 and 5001 application-ready contactless microprocessors and INSIDE’s software development kit (SDK) tools give developers the tools they need to create and deploy a variety of standards-based contactless applications from a single platform.

voipGATE announced its support of the newly created Top Level Domain .tel one month before its launch. The upcoming version of voipGATE’s softphone will integrate all the .tel Directory services and functionalities. Ease-of-access and contact management options provided by any .tel name will be available to customers of the Luxembourg-based Voice-Over IP operator.

Palm, Inc. announced the Treo Pro smartphone is now available on the Vodafone New Zealand network. Treo Pro includes email, Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities.
