New pressure for 3Com

News.com has this story which explains the new pressures 3Com will face when Palm Computing becomes a separate company. Since Palm Computing contributes so much 3Com’s profits, 3Com will have to find another way to make money.

Compaq’s new devices

PC World has this article covering Compaq’s newest devices, the Aero 1530 and the Aero 2180.The Aero 1530, which is seen as a Palm V competitor, has a docking cradle, AC adapter, an auto adapter, and a travel synchronization cable. Aero 2180 is a color palm-size PC with 24MB of memory.

Portable applications

VenturCom released Win32rt, a selection of the Microsoft Win32 API (application programming interface) calls that facilitate the design of real-time Windows-based application components and real-time device drivers. Real-time applications and driver source code using this API are portable between Windows CE and Windows NT with the RTX real-time extension.

iBiz accessories

iBIZ Technology announced the addition of two new Palm computing accessories for its KeySync Keyboard. iBIZ will begin shipping a new foldable cradle in mid October that will be included with the KeySync keyboard. They will also will begin shipping a twelve-volt power adapter for the Palm V also in mid October.
