Shadowpack 1.0 launched

Shadowpack Inc. has launched Shadowpack 1.0, a free service that increases the functionality of wireless devices such as smart phones, communicating personal digital assistants (PDAs), and two-way pagers. Shadowpack gives users access to content and services found on any Web or Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) site, including those authored in HDML, WML, and HTML. It should also give wireless users the ability to share Web content.

ActiveSky video player

PMN Publications has an article on ActiveSky’s announcement of its video player for Palm Computing platform devices. The software application should enable users to view moving video clips on their Palm handheld computers. Support is also included for the color screen of the Palm IIIc.

PylonPro 3.0

SearchDomino has an article on Globalware Computing Inc.’s release of PylonPro 3.0, designed to provide Lotus Notes users with synchronized data access on any compatible Palm OS-enabled wireless device. PylonPro allows access to and synchronization of the Lotus Notes Calendar, Email, Address Book, ToDo, Memo, and Expenses. It also introduces automatic location detection and adapts custom Notes applications to the Palm OS without any additional programming.

Pocket Football coming soon

Pocket Football 2000 will soon be available at Palmcentral.com. It’s an arcade/strategy football game for the Palm device that features a play design menu and an arcade mode play execution. It features 18 offensive formations and 16 defensive formations, 28 pass patterns for the receivers, advanced artificial intelligence for each player position, unlimited sudden-death overtime play, and a no-huddle offensive mode for the computer-controlled team.

New messaging software

BulletIN.net announced it has teamed with Primate Systems, Inc. to develop and market new messaging software that should allow users of Palm or Handspring handheld computers to compose email, forward email to a wireless phone via the infra-red port, and then send the message over existing wireless networks.

Yahoo has a press release from Public Safety Group, Inc. announcing the release of PocketCop, a new application that uses handheld wireless Palm devices to allow officers instant access to state and federal databases.

Jeff Carlson has an article in Macworld in which eight Mac-compatible Palm and Handspring handhelds were tested so Mac users will know what’s the best choice to suit their needs. The devices tested were the Palm IIIc, the Palm IIIe, the Palm IIIxe, the Palm V, the Palm Vx, the Palm VII, the Handspring Visor, and the Handspring Visor Deluxe.
