Mobile Internet Kit shipping

Palm, Inc. announced that its Palm Mobile Internet Kit is shipping. The software product allows virtually all Palm handheld computer users to connect wirelessly to the Internet using a data-enabled mobile phone. The kit is available immediately in the United States, with scheduled availability in the rest of the world by the end of the month.

MyPalm personal portal

Palm, Inc. announced the public beta version of a new, personal portal for Palm VII series handheld users. The MyPalm portal takes the expanse of the Internet and organizes just the information needed and wanted onto users’ Palm handheld computers. It’s set to go live by December 25.

Forcefully Palm

TheForce.net, a Star Wars fan site, has received word from a reader that issue 400 of Mad magazine has a parody of the Simply Palm ads in which we get to see what’s on George Lucas’ Palm device. According to the blurb, on the Palm device screen shown in the ad are such memos as, “How to thank John ‘Battlefield Earth’ Travolta for taking the heat off Phantom Menace as worst Sci-Fi flick of all time?? Flowers? Candy?”

Voting for the future

digitalMASS has an article on Hart InterCivic Inc.’s eSlate voting device. According to the article, the device, “resembles an oversized palmtop computer” and was used in several counties in Texas and Colorado in last week’s election. Voters are assigned a personal identification number to ensure that each person can only vote once. It’s interesting that handheld computing may be just the solution needed to prevent situations like the one in Florida from happening again.

MIDI player for Palm V series

Palm, Inc. and Shinei International announced the release of the Tsunamidi product, the first add-on MIDI player for Palm handheld computers. According to the press release, the Tsunamidi portable MIDI player is a state-of-the-art, portable recording studio developed for use with Palm V series handhelds. The mobile music authoring and editing tool is General MIDI compliant and contains a built-in speaker and an external stereo headphone connector.

Google search engine

Google Inc. and Palm, Inc. announced that the Google search engine is featured in the new MyPalm portal. This agreement enables MyPalm users with a wirelessly enabled Palm handheld to search the Web with Google’s search engine technology.
