
Yahoo has a Reuters report that says Handspring Inc. reported a second-quarter operating loss and revenues that were better than analysts’ expectations. According to the article, the company reported an operating loss of 7 cents per diluted share for the period ended December 30, compared with a loss per share of 12 cents in the year-ago quarter.

ZDNet reports that Bill Maggs, Palm’s chief technology officer, will be leaving the company. According to the article, Maggs said he has not set a resignation date and plans to remain on as a consultant for a time.

Yesterday we ran a piece about 3Com planning layoffs. For those of you who may have forgotten, Palm, Inc. is no longer part of 3Com, though 3Com does own a measurable percentage of Palm. In other words, please don’t confuse layoffs at 3Com with any problems at Palm. All indications are that Palm is quite successful at this time.

CNET News.com reports that at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, the displays for Cadillac and GM featured Palm handheld computers that beamed informational leaflets into consumers’ compatible devices.

CNET News.com has an article on Toshiba America Electronic Components’ announcement of its TC35273XB chip for PDAs. According to the article, the chip has 12MB of integrated memory and an encoder and decoder for MPEG-4.
