Smaller.com has a report from the official launch of Handspring’s Visor Edge. The article opens, “With all the leaks last week, we didn’t think there would be very much to say at the Visor Edge unveiling today. Boy, we’re we wrong. Yes, we had all seen the leaked pictures of the new unit, but that was nothing like seeing it in person, holding it in our hands.”

IntelliGolf version 5.1 is being introduced today, featuring color displays, wireless access to +10,000 digital scorecards, and beaming of scores, players, and courses between handhelds.

Handspring, Inc. introduced the Visor Edge yesterday. It’s the company’s first slim-design handheld and the first Visor product to be available in a metal casing, which comes in three metallic colors: silver, blue, and red. It’s available now online for $399, and it will be shipping to retail stores by the end of the month.
The Visor Edge has a monochrome screen, a rechargeable battery, and utilizes Palm OS 3.5.2H2. The updated OS includes an enhanced Address Book with fast lookup, a silent alarm, and Date Book Plus, with an integrated To Do list.
Just like previous Visor models, it makes use of Springboards via a detachable Springboard slot that simply slides onto the back of the device and hooks up to “the Edge connector port.” The Visor Edge is compatible with all existing Springboard modules that support Palm OS 3.5, including the VisorPhone. The device’s metal flip-lid also attaches to the handheld by making use of the Edge connector port. The stylus, meanwhile, clips onto the right-hand side of the device.
A full review of the Visor Edge will be available in the next issue of PalmPower Magazine.
