Firepad sees double

Firepad, Inc. announced that it has doubled image compression performance for the latest version of FireViewer. FireViewer users who upgrade to version 5.2 can now store twice as many images on their Palm devices, on average, with no loss in performance.

Knitting software at long last

Jenies Technologies Incorporated announced their third software title for the Palm OS, KnitAble. They believe this to be the first commercial application for the Palm OS written specifically for knitters. The application features the ability to track individual projects, store measurements, maintain inventory of needles and crochet hooks, and record and recall knitting terms.

New use for Dining Companion

The Columbus Dispatch has a piece about Amy Reiley’s Pocket Gourmet Dining Companion, pointing out that those suffering from food allergies can get a better handle on whether something they’re ordering will trigger an allergic reaction. Says David Horwich of neohand, inc. in a note sent to PalmPower, “I must admit this was not one of the intended uses of Pocket Gourmet, but it’s an interesting angle.”

Wireless photo messaging

Electric Pocket and IDEO announced they have teamed to offer wireless photo messaging to Handspring Visor users. People can capture digital photographs directly on a Handspring Visor with an IDEO eyemodule-series camera module that snaps into the Visor’s Springboard expansion slot. Then, with Electric Pocket’s BugMe! Messenger application, people can write captions directly on their digital photographs and email them wirelessly to their friends, family, or co-workers using any Springboard module modem.
