
MediaSolv announced that it has designed a low cost PDA that will be demonstrated at the CommunicAsia 2001 tradeshow in Singapore in June, will cost as little as $25. According to the press briefing, this PDA is essentially proof of concept for the company’s Bluetooth enabled ETHERchip technology.

CNET reports personal computer maker Acer plans to license Palm’s operating system for its handheld computers.

Information is now available on the Minstrel m500 wireless handheld modem for the Palm m500 series handhelds.

Brochu Software is offering its Palm Graffiti-enhancement product, TapPad, for $10, 50% off the normal price of $19.95. This offer has been extended through midnight Wednesday May 23. TapPad is an overlay and software combination that adds a number keypad and one-tap clipboard functions to your Palm OS device.

Larry Garfield has a column at Palm Station in which he blames Palm’s current problems on licensing, and effect he calls “Apple Syndrome.” As a solution, he suggests Palm split into two companies, a hardware company and a software company owned jointly by the various licensees.

ZDNet reports some customers trying to subscribe to Palm’s wireless service, Palm.net, have been unable to activate their accounts. According to Palm spokeswoman Julia Rodriguez, they are “aware of the problem and are working with suppliers to resolve the issue.”

CBS MarketWatch is reporting Palm rose 30 cents, or 5.9 percent, to $5.35 in the pre-open.

Finally, some good news. TheStreet.com reports Palm was up 8.9% in pre-open Island trading. According to the report, UBS Warburg upgraded the company to “strong buy” from “hold,” citing the company’s “aggressive action” on inventory problems.

IntelliSwim Personal edition stopwatch software times, totals, and tabulates swimmer performance for on-screen review. Accurate to 1/100th of a second, IntelliSwim’s tracks an unlimited number of swimmers, meets, and events with up to 50 splits per race.
