
Palm, Inc. announced the Palm Bluetooth Card at the Bluetooth Congress 2001. The card will enable local communication (within 10 meters, or 30 feet) between Palm handhelds and other Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, printers, network hubs, and other handhelds. Designed using the open industry-standard Secure Digital Input/Output specification, the Palm Bluetooth Card can be slipped into Palm products that have the SD/MultiMediaCard expansion slot, currently the Palm m500 and m505 handhelds. The card, jointly developed between Palm and Toshiba is expected to be available before the end of the year for $150 or less (estimated U.S. street price).

Pumatech, Inc. announced IntelliZone software, a downloadable application designed to provide Palm OS handheld users with the capability to change time zones. Additionally, IntelliZone should enable users to automatically change email and appointments across time zones to reflect the current time, automatically update the handheld to reflect daylight saving time, and utilize a built-in world map for time zone selection.

Peoplestreet announced that it has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Bank of America. The agreement calls for Peoplestreet to provide access to a co-branded Web site where Bank of America customers can update their contact information when they move or change jobs, allowing them to provide their most up-to-date contact information to others. As part of the agreement, Bank of America also will be offering Peoplestreet LiveCards to its more than 140,000 associates. The updated information will integrate directly into personal information management programs and PDAs such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Palm handheld devices and others.

CNET News.com reports that the Computex trade show in Taipei, Taiwan revealed an array of companies devoted to making new types of handhelds, as well as keyboards, cases, and other accessories for Palm and Handspring models.

Gameloft Pocket has been officially launched. The site offers commercial games for Palm OS, Pocket PC, and Symbian handhelds. The site also includes news, previews, interviews, contests, and exclusive games. The online catalogue contains hundreds of games, covering all genres from sports to arcade and mind games.

HandEra, Inc. announced that the HandEra 330 handheld computing device is now shipping. Last week the company began shipping direct phone and Web orders and will continue to fill reseller, retail, and distribution channels over the next month.

iambic has announced Ababall, a new full-color Palm OS game. Ababall features fluid 2-D and 3-D graphics, 32 levels of play, and varying difficulty.

Wireless Knowledge, Inc. and Kyocera Wireless Corp. announced they are joining forces to offer enterprise mobility applications for the Palm OS based Kyocera’s QCP 6035 smartphone. In addition, Wireless Knowledge will provide custom development services for the creation of wireless enterprise solutions that will utilize the QCP 6035 as a platform for corporate collaboration.
