
LandWare has released the 2002 Zagat Restaurant Guide software for Palm OS equipped handhelds. The new Zagat 2002 Edition includes full ratings and reviews for more than 18,000 restaurants and 1,100 Nightspots in 32 individually installable cities.

Weissmann Travel Reports and neohand, inc. announced that they have expanded their list of offerings. New reports include recommendations for Cincinnati, Ft. Worth, Istanbul, Osaka, Richmond, and Seoul.

Red-M launched an addition to the Red-M Blade family, with its Bluetooth module for Handspring Visor handheld computers. The Red-M Blade is inserted into the Springboard expansion slot to provide access to Bluetooth wireless mobility.

The LS Starrett company has started to resell the DataGet system. As part of the agreement, Tescina, Inc. developed a new DataGet cartridge connecting Starrett gauges to the Visor handheld. The cartridge connects one or two Starrett gauges to the handheld. For example, with a caliper and digital tape measure, cubic volumes of wood stocks can be measured. The AutoWake technology turns on the handheld when a gauge sends data. If the Visor is busy when the data arrives, the measurement is stored on the cartridge until the handheld is ready.

Palm, Inc. unveiled a new format for the PalmSource Conference and Expo, which is set for February 5-8, 2002, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. PalmSource will include two new programs: an Enterprise Seminar for CIOs, IT decision-makers and business professionals; and a new PalmSource Expo, where Palm enthusiasts can see demonstrations of Palm OS devices, accessories, and a wide variety of the more than 12,000 available Palm OS based applications.

Palm, Inc. and WideRay announced an alliance with the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE) to make the 2001 Annual NYSCATE Conference a cutting-edge, all-digital conference. The event is scheduled for November 18-20 in Albany, N.Y. This year’s conference will focus on trends in hardware, software, wireless networking solutions, and future technologies that will be delivered on handheld computing platforms. Each attendee will receive a Palm IIIc handheld computer and firsthand experience with wireless beaming from WideRay.

CNET News.com reports Palm has cut $50 off the price of its color Palm m505 handheld, bringing the model to $399. This will make the handheld model an even better investment for the enterprise.

HandWatch has announced JpegWatch, a JPEG image viewer designed specificly for viewing images on memory cards. With memory card expansion, there is no more need to convert JPEG images before viewing them on Palm handhelds. The JPEG files can be stored on the memory card and viewed with JpegWatch.
