Handspring and ViAir, Inc. announced a strategic marketing and sales relationship. Under the agreement, both ViAir and Handspring will work to jointly market their products to wireless carriers throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Handspring and ViAir will also collaborate on evaluation, testing, and training efforts for current and future communications products.

DataViz, Inc. announced that Documents To Go Professional Edition is included on the new Palm i705 wireless handheld. With the inclusion of Documents To Go, Palm, Inc.’s much-anticipated new handheld allows customers to create, view, and edit Word and Excel files as well as review PowerPoint files.

AvantGo, Inc. announced that the United States Patent & Trademark Office has granted the company its first patent. Patent number 6,341,316 covers the system, method, and computer program product for synchronizing content between a server and a client.

Odeon Software Inc. announced the release of VBToolkit for the Palm OS. The VBToolkit is a set of 14 ActiveX controls that enable Microsoft Visual Basic developers to create the corresponding desktop version to their Palm OS applications. The VBToolkit includes all of the necessary tools for creating a comprehensive desktop application. The ActiveX Control suite includes a User Combo Box control, a Database Grid with in place editing, a Masked Edit Control, and a Category Combo Box.

STNE Corporation is now offering glass replacement for the Palm IIIc. If you have a Palm IIIc with broken glass but a good LCD, STNE can replace your glass. STNE Corporation also offers internal memory upgrades for most all Palm and Handspring handhelds.

PalmInfocenter reports that Palm has long held the top spot in handheld sales, but it widened the gap last quarter according to a report from IDC saying Palm-branded handhelds accounted for 42.6% of all handhelds shipped worldwide.

Palm has issued a press release to annuonce the PalmSource Conference and Expo, the premier gathering of the Palm OS community. It will take place from February 5-8, 2002 at the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, California.

CNET News.com reports that despite announcing plans to eventually exit the traditional handheld organizer market, Handspring is trying to reassure developers it is not doing so anytime soon.
