ViAir and Handspring agreement

Handspring and ViAir, Inc. announced a strategic marketing and sales relationship. Under the agreement, both ViAir and Handspring will work to jointly market their products to wireless carriers throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Handspring and ViAir will also collaborate on evaluation, testing, and training efforts for current and future communications products.

VBToolkit for Palm OS

Odeon Software Inc. announced the release of VBToolkit for the Palm OS. The VBToolkit is a set of 14 ActiveX controls that enable Microsoft Visual Basic developers to create the corresponding desktop version to their Palm OS applications. The VBToolkit includes all of the necessary tools for creating a comprehensive desktop application. The ActiveX Control suite includes a User Combo Box control, a Database Grid with in place editing, a Masked Edit Control, and a Category Combo Box.

Palm widens gap in marketshare

PalmInfocenter reports that Palm has long held the top spot in handheld sales, but it widened the gap last quarter according to a report from IDC saying Palm-branded handhelds accounted for 42.6% of all handhelds shipped worldwide.

Handspring reassures developers

CNET News.com reports that despite announcing plans to eventually exit the traditional handheld organizer market, Handspring is trying to reassure developers it is not doing so anytime soon.
