Metrowerks CodeWarrior Wireless Studio 7 was announced as the winner of Game Developer magazine’s Front Line Award in the programming category for excellence and innovation in tools for game development during 2002. The Front Line Awards recognize software and hardware companies whose tools enable faster and more efficient game creation. CodeWarrior Wireless Studio was released in March 2002 and is targeted at application development for Java technology-enabled devices such as smart phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and set-top boxes.

New Tigers Consultancy (NTC) has signed an agreement with Rococo Software to assist in developing and promoting sales and identifying local partnerships for the support of Rococo Software’s wireless software products in China. As part of the partnership, NTC will promote Rococo Software’s Java and Bluetooth products and services in China.

Communication Intelligence Corporation and PalmSource Inc. announced a licensing agreement for CIC’s Jot handwriting recognition software. Under this agreement, “Graffiti 2 powered by Jot,” will be embedded by PalmSource in current versions of its Palm OS platform provided to licensees of its operating system. The new Graffiti 2 handwriting software supports an intuitive, more natural form of input, minimizing learning time for new users and easing the transition for experienced users.

Electric Pocket Limited announced it has released a new version of its BugMe! application for the Nokia Series 60 platform. BugMe! has long been available for Palm OS and Pocket PC handheld computers, and it will now enable users of Nokia 7650 and Nokia 3650 cell phones to quickly enter notes using text, voice, and photographs.

AvantGo, Inc. announced that it has received a notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the Company will receive its third patent for its mobile technology. The Company believes the patent will be issued before the end of March 2003.

Handspring Inc. announced that its family of Treo Communicators received several end-of-year accolades as the cell phone of choice from a variety of business, technology, and consumer publications. Most recently Computer Reseller News recognized the Treo as a leader in its category, citing its technological ingenuity and naming it the best overall product of 2002. CRN’s Test Center chose Treo as the best product across ten categories including handheld PCs, notebooks, printers and portals. Treo continues to be recognized for its superior performance in integrating a cell phone, organizer, email and Web- browsing functionality into one small device.

Palm developer Robert Jen announced that his application Triv has passed the official Palm OS 5.0 certification tests. Triv is a trivia game for Palm handhelds and now offers over 18,000 multiple choice, short-answer, and true-false questions for registered users (unregistered users of Triv have free, full-featured access to the first 36 questions in each of 43 available modules). The three newest trivia modules are genus, sports, and entertainment multiple-choice modules including over 1,500 new questions.

Pygmy Pouch introduced The Everywhere Performance Pouch, protection and storage for wireless and mobile devices. The new, universally sized pouch is designed to cradle and protect practically any handheld gadget such as PDAs and GPS units, and fits all major brands.
