We’re bound to get more letters, but this is interesting, if not a bit scary. Is posting this left-wing or patriotic? Is it liberal to support the constitution or merely an American way of life? No matter what your thoughts, now is definitely the time to keep an eye on the world outside our wires.

SPUG meets today

m-Itinerary launched on Air2Web

Travel Incorporated is announcing the launch of its new wireless application, m-Itinerary, powered by wireless platform provider, Air2Web. The first customer of the service is Ormandy Inc. CFO Judith Kale. The m-Itinerary service is designed to provide corporate travelers with their full travel itinerary, as well as airport security warnings, reservation changes, and weather delays, via alerts to Web-enabled phones, text messaging phones, or personal device assistants (PDAs).

Datastick and Bluetooth

Datastick Systems, Inc. announced Datastick Connection Plus BT for ICHM software that communicates with Oceana Sensor’s Bluetooth enabled ICHM 20/20 module now enables users to receive sensor-based information on Palm handhelds. The software is being demonstrated in Oceana Sensor Technologies’ booth at National Manufacturing Week from March 3 to 6 in Chicago.

The Bluetooth enabled Oceana ICHM 20/20 smart sensing module collects data from various sensors, converts analog signals to digital, and performs an array of signal processing and embedded software functions. The information is transmitted wirelessly to the Palm handheld, where it is received by Datastick Connection Plus BT for ICHM software and displayed on the handheld in real time. The software provides bar graph, line graph, gauge, and numeric views of data at sample rates up to five samples per second or faster, depending on the model of Palm handheld being used. Up to four analog inputs can be shown on up to eight display channels, with separate linearization on each.

PalmSource, Inc. welcomed Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. to the Palm OS Ready Program. Samsung brings expertise in wireless chip sets and memory technology to the program, which lowers development cost and shortens time-to-market for Palm OS licensees manufacturing ARM-based handhelds and smart phones.

ArmZX updated

The first full-working ZXSpectrum emulator for Palm OS 5, ArmZX, was updated. The new version 1.1b has the following changes: support of the Sony Clie (PalmOS5); keys redefinition; smooth volume control; VFS card support; auto TAP-loading function; and fixed version of the SNA/TAP to PDB converter. The emulator can load SNA and TAP files from internal Palm OS memory and from the Flash card.

Michelin buys Tungsten T handhelds

Palm, Inc. and Michelin announced that Michelin North Americas, Inc. has purchased more than 500 Palm Tungsten T handhelds for its commercial fleet sales force. Sales consultants from the commercial fleet sales force at Michelin are using Tungsten T handhelds to collect tire data while onsite at customer locations. Information such as tire wear, age, and mileage is recorded, analyzed, and reported to keep commercial customers abreast of tire performance. The solution also helps keep the Michelin product-development team one step ahead of the competition.

German and French ebooks

Palm Digital Media, Inc. announced two Internet retailers, envi.con KG of Berlin and GiantChair, an American company based in Paris, are the first online bookstores to offer German and French language editions of Palm Reader eBooks.
