PalmSource, Inc. and Samsung Electronics introduced the Mobile Information Terminals (MITs) SGH-i500, the world’s first GSM-based next generation smart phone running on Palm OS 5. Samsung’s MITs SGH-i500 is the first Palm OS 5 smart phone that provides users multi-media and wireless capabilities in a portable clamshell form factor. In addition to the classic features of Palm OS, the MITs SGH-i500 from Samsung provides features that include an MMS Client and WAP 2.0 Web browser for fast and convenient wireless Web access. The GPRS tri-band phone also has a 330,000 pixel CMOS digital camera supporting a 65,000 color TFT-LCD screen display, and a media pack for video, audio, and imaging.

Qvadis joined Palm, Inc. and Air Canada in unveiling the first Beam & Fly station at Pearson International Airport. Beam & Fly allows travelers to receive up-to-the-minute flight schedules, world news, sports briefs, airport maps, and city guides, by beaming them into their Palm handhelds.

Kaspersky Labs announced the release of the commercial version of Kaspersky Security for PDA 4.5. The new version is designed to ensure the full-scale defense of handheld computers running under Pocket PC and Palm OS, and is available in the Kaspersky Labs online store. The software includes an optimal collection of anti-virus measures, a two-tiered system that controls access to data (system passwords and data encryption) as well as a management console that enables the automatic retrieval and processing of anti-virus database updates via the Internet any time the PDA is connected with a PC.
