Palm, in cooperation with CEC Telecom, a subsidiary of Qiao Xing Universal Telephone, announced the launch of the Palm Treo 650 smartphone in China. With its full-featured GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad-band phone, a Palm OS organizer, messaging, email, and Web access capabilities in a compact design, the localized Chinese-language Treo 650 brings the Palm mobile-solutions experience to Chinese consumers and businesses. The Treo 650 is available at key retailers in China.

In an attempt to boost its stalled economy, the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans is starting the nation’s first free wireless Internet network owned and run by a major city. Similar projects elsewhere have been stalled by stiff opposition from telephone and cable television companies aimed at discouraging competition from public agencies. The system uses hardware mounted on street lights to cover the city.

Internet Soft Solution has released EzVoice version 3.1, PC based call blocking and answering machine software that blocks unwanted calls and lets you have a romantic and quiet dinnertime with your family during this holiday season. EzVoice can automatically distinguish who is calling if you subscribe to caller id service from your local phone company. It can block unnecessary calls and forward junk calls to a bulk folder. On the other hand, if the call is from your friends or relatives, the caller can leave you messages, and EzVoice will notify you of these new calls through email on your pager or cellular phones.

U.S. Cellular announced that it is working with Research In Motion to bring BlackBerry to its customers. U.S. Cellular will offer the BlackBerry 7250 Wireless Handheld with support for both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service. U.S. Cellular customers will be able to access their email on the same seamless, high-quality network that brings them voice services.

Cable & Wireless and Research In Motion introduced the BlackBerry wireless solution in Panama. Cable & Wireless is offering the Blackberry 7290, the BlackBerry 7100g, BlackBerry Internet Service, and Blackberry Enterprise Server v4.0.

PERSONAL and Research In Motion announced plans to launch the BlackBerry wireless platform in Argentina. PERSONAL Argentina plans to offer the BlackBerry 7290, the BlackBerry 7100g, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and BlackBerry Internet Service to mobile professionals in Argentina beginning in early December. PERSONAL is the first cellular operator to launch BlackBerry in Argentina.

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago and Research In Motion announced plans to launch the BlackBerry wireless solution in Trinidad and Tobago. TSTT will offer the Blackberry 7290, the BlackBerry 7100g, BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.0, and BlackBerry Internet Service in conjunction with TSTT’s GSM/GPRS mobile network.

Movilnet Venezuela and Research In Motion announced plans to introduce the BlackBerry wireless solution in Venezuela. Movilnet Venezuela will offer BlackBerry services on its EV-DO and CDMA1X networks with support for both BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service. Movilnet will become the first wireless operator to offer the innovative BlackBerry wireless solution in Venezuela. Commercial launch of the BlackBerry solution is expected in the coming weeks.

MobiMate announced the release of WorldMate 2006 Professional Edition for Windows Mobile. The business travel service now supports Windows Mobile 5.0, and features a complete overhaul of the Real-Time Flight Status service, now covering over 75 leading airlines and provided as part of the subscription. Another service added is weather imagery, featuring detailed, animated weather satellite and radar imagery.
