Lenovo’s ThinkPad T60 model is getting a wide-screen update. The company announced that it would begin to offer a 5.1-pound, ThinkPad T60 notebook with a 15.4-inch display. The T60 ThinkPad model had previously come with a 14-inch and 15-inch screen. By offering a bigger screen, Lenovo is continuing to make its ThinkPad series, which still carries the IBM logo, an appealing choice to the notebook’s traditional customer base of business users.

Symantec made available public beta versions of Norton Internet Security 2007 and Norton AntiVirus 2007 for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Vista. The final releases of Symantec’s Vista-compatible consumer security products are scheduled to be available for purchase when the operating system ships early next year. Symantec plans to have corporate editions of its security tools for Vista out by December.

A University of Idaho professor is devising a new form of solar cell she says could lead to a breakthrough that would make solar energy commercially feasible. Chemist Pam Shapiro, her graduate students and her colleagues at the university are working on creating better materials and combining them in new ways that could more than double the efficiency of present solar cells. If successful, she said the new technology could help the U.S. break its oil dependency.

DataViz announced that its mobile office suite, Documents To Go Professional Edition 8.0, is included with Palm’s new Treo 680 smartphone. In addition Documents To Go works with many email applications for opening a wide variety of attachments from sales contracts and year end reports to Christmas wish lists and sports schedules.
