BlackBerry in Belgium

Belgian mobile phone operator Proximus and Research In Motion (RIM) announced the launch of the BlackBerry 7100v business phone and BlackBerry Enterprise Server v4.0, expanding Proximus’ existing range of BlackBerry products in order to offer more choice to mobile customers. The BlackBerry 7100v from Proximus is the first of its kind available in Belgium, delivering the power of BlackBerry within a sleek and stylish mobile phone design. In addition to push-based email and phone capabilities, the BlackBerry 7100v also features support for text messaging, browser, organizer and corporate data applications in a compact, integrated device.

BlackBerry Connect in the Philippines

Globe, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications and Research In Motion (RIM) announced the availability of BlackBerry Connect for the Sony Ericsson P910i to Globe Telecom customers in the Philippines. BlackBerry Connect enables P910i users to connect to proven and popular BlackBerry services featuring push-based wireless technology. BlackBerry provides an efficient and reliable communications platform that automatically delivers emails to and from a wireless device. The Sony Ericsson P910i will support BlackBerry services, while maintaining the existing P910i experience and functionality.

Userplane on Streaming Radio

Userplane, provider of live community software, announced that it has deployed its Userplane Webchat application on Streaming Radio, an Internet radio station in the United Kingdom–enabling listeners to interact with each other in a live audio/video chat forum. Established to demonstrate the power of Internet audio and video streaming, Streaming Radio provides talented but lesser-known broadcasters the opportunity to communicate with the UK and the rest of the world. TealTracker time and expense tracking

TealPoint Software announced the release of TealTracker 1.00 for the Palm OS platform. TealTracker tracks time and expenses in a fast, easy to use interface that requires minimal effort without interruption to work flow. Letting the user easily record changes in activities throughout the day, TealTracker is a personal time clock. TealTracker supports expense and mileage entries as well as minimum per-task and per-invoice billing increments. In addition, TealTracker offers reporting capabilities, supporting charts, graphs, and reports that export to files, including the .CSV file format and the Palm OS Memo Pad application.

palmOne acquires rights to Palm brand

palmOne announced an agreement with PalmSource for palmOne to acquire full rights to the brand name Palm. The brand had been co-owned by the two companies since the October 2003 spin-off of PalmSource from Palm, Inc. palmOne will pay PalmSource $30 million for PalmSource’s 55 percent share of the Palm Trademark Holding Company. Payment will be made in installments over 3.5 years. palmOne will change its company name to Palm, Inc. later this year. As part of the agreement, palmOne has granted PalmSource certain rights to Palm trademarks for PalmSource and its licensees for a four-year transition period.

PalmSource chief steps down

David Nagel has resigned as PalmSource chief executive, president and director, a move that follows a series of executive changes in the past several months at the struggling maker of the Palm handheld operating system. Nagel, who resigned as of Sunday, has been replaced by Patrick McVeigh, PalmSource senior vice president of worldwide licensing and sales. McVeigh will serve as interim CEO as the company initiates a search for a permanent replacement. Nagel will remain as a company adviser through mid-July to help with the transition.

Kinoma streams video

Kinoma demonstrated RTSP streaming playback at the PalmSource developer conference, providing a glimpse into the future of the Kinoma Player 3 EX. RTSP is the streaming media network protocol mandated by the 3GPP cellular phone industry consortium for delivery of streaming audio and video to mobile phones. Kinoma successfully demonstrated 3GPP compliant RTSP streaming of live video to a Treo 650 smartphone from palmOne over the Sprint PCS network and to a Tungsten T5 from palmOne over a WiFi/802.11b connection. When Kinoma delivers the RTSP enabled version of Kinoma Player 3 EX later this year, owners of Internet-enabled Palm-powered mobile devices and smartphones will be able to enjoy streaming audio and video content from the growing number of content providers delivering digital media using RTSP.
