Kinoma demonstrated RTSP streaming playback at the PalmSource developer conference, providing a glimpse into the future of the Kinoma Player 3 EX. RTSP is the streaming media network protocol mandated by the 3GPP cellular phone industry consortium for delivery of streaming audio and video to mobile phones. Kinoma successfully demonstrated 3GPP compliant RTSP streaming of live video to a Treo 650 smartphone from palmOne over the Sprint PCS network and to a Tungsten T5 from palmOne over a WiFi/802.11b connection. When Kinoma delivers the RTSP enabled version of Kinoma Player 3 EX later this year, owners of Internet-enabled Palm-powered mobile devices and smartphones will be able to enjoy streaming audio and video content from the growing number of content providers delivering digital media using RTSP.
