Toyota unveiled the latest two creations from its robot project, including one that can play the violin, and said it is targeting the early 2010s for the development of a viable human-assistance robot.

The two new machines are the Mobiro, a sort-of motorized wheel chair that can scoot people around their neighborhood and is able to cope with uneven surfaces, and the Violin-Playing Robot. Toyota has already developed a robot capable of playing the trumpet, so with a little extra effort the company could soon have an entire band.

Apple’s iTunes Store has a new game for iPods called Brain Challenge. It costs US$4.99. Brain Challenge is billed as a “vitamin boost for your brain,” and a “personal coach” used to keep your brain alert. It includes 20 different mini-games set up in five categories designed to test your brain’s abilities: Visual, Memory, Logic, Math and Focus.

The Daily Brain Test puts you through five random three-minute mini games, stats and graphs that show you your performance, and a “creative mode” that helps you exercise your artistic abilities.

Website retailer ThinkGeek is selling a cotton T-shirt that lights up when it detects a nearby Wi-Fi network. Known as the Wi-Fi Detector Shirt, it features an animated decal that has glowing bars which light up when there is an IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g network in range. However, it cannot yet detect networks using 802.11n Draft 2.0. More bars light up as the signal gets stronger.

The 100 percent cotton T-shirt is only available in black and cost $29.99. The animated decal, which is attached to the shirt with hook-and-loop fasteners, can be removed for washing. A battery pack containing three AAA batteries is concealed in a small pocket sewn inside the shirt.

Google and its new Android mobile development platform may compete with Apple for the attention of smartphone shoppers, but that isn’t stopping Google from building applications designed specifically for Apple’s iPhone.

Google announced a new iPhone application that integrates multiple Google services into one interface. By logging onto Google’s main page, iPhone users can now access Google’s search, email, calendar and news reader services, and easily move from one application to another, the company says.

The interview yesterday with MyPointRadio went great! David and Jenn were excellent hosts and the show was fun as well as informative. I had a chance to talk about the book, but what’s becoming more and more apparent is how concerned (and still relatively uninformed) regular people are about their own computer and email security.

As I do more press, I think it’ll be very important to focus on the things real people can do to safeguard themselves from online troublemakers. Since you can never hear this often enough, let’s do a quick recap of what you should do to keep yourself protected.

First, always update your operating system. Second, be sure you’re running an antivirus program and keep it updated. Third, be sure you’re running an anti-spyware program and keep that updated. Update these things daily. And, as we’ve told you over and over and over and over: NEVER OPEN ATTACHMENTS!

There’s more to online security, but if you follow these four rules, you’ll be a lot safer than when you started.
