As you may know, you can access Google Docs on your iPhone by way of the Safari browser. But what happens if there’s no wireless service available? Enter MiGhtyDocs, a free iPhone app that supports offline viewing of Google Docs documents and spreadsheets.

Global banking giant HSBC is considering ditching the BlackBerry and adopting Apple’s iPhone as its standard staff mobile device, a move that could result in an order for some 200,000 iPhones.

HSBC has some 300,000 staff internationally. A decision to standardise on the iPhone on its corporate networks would likely lead to one of the world’s largest iPhone orders.

Nine or more months later than expected, the first Microsoft Surface tabletops have gone live inside select Sheraton hotels. On August 13, Microsoft announced the first of the 30-inch Surface systems are now available at five hotels in Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. Each hotel is offering Sheraton-customized versions of the Microsoft-developed Surface suite of apps.

Verizon Wireless announced that they are now offering the once Apple-only Visual Voice Mail feature on their LG Voyager handset for an additional US$2.99 per month. Neither Apple, nor Sprint charge additional fees for their visual voice mail features on the iPhone and the Samsung Instinct. VZW says that the feature will be added to other handsets but didn’t offer a timeline.

Dell has previewed a new instant on technology that allows users to carry out basic tasks on their notebooks without having to boot up into Windows. Is this the future for notebooks?

The technology, called Dell Latitude ON, will feature on the Latitude E4200 and E4300 in the next few months. It will allow users to have near-instant access to a Linux-based environment that offers email, calendar, attachments, contacts (yes, these are going to have to be cloud computing-based since you’re not going to want to have to reenter the same data more than once) and a Web browser, all without ever needing to boot into the main operating system. An added advantage of Dell Latitude ON its that it extends the battery life from hours to days.

Sprint Nextel is considering a sale of the Nextel wireless network it bought in 2005, but may have trouble finding a buyer for an asset whose value has plunged about 80 percent to an estimated $5 billion.

Sprint has struggled to integrate Nextel’s iDen network, used by public safety and construction workers, with its own services and has lost millions of customers since paying about $35 billion for Nextel Communications three years ago.

Best Buy will become the first retail chain outside of Apple and AT&T to sell the iPhone in the U.S., an Apple spokesperson confirmed for Macworld on Tuesday.

First reported by AP, Best Buy will begin selling the iPhone on September 7 in 970 full-size stores and 16 smaller Best Buy Mobile stores. Apple began selling Macs and iPods in about 170 Best Buy stores during the fiscal third quarter, for a total of 570; it hopes to be up to about 600 stores by end of summer.
