Qbrowser released

Foliage Software Systems and Compaq have announced the development and release of Qbrowser, a HTML and WAP 1.1 compliant browser for use on the Compaq Aero 2100 and 1500 Palm-sized devices. Qbrowser is available as a component of the GSM Connectivity Suite, a solution that enables wireless communication via the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) Network.

New Jornada announced

Hewlett-Packard Company announced the HP Jornada 690 Handheld PC, an increased-capacity model in its Jornada 600 series of color Windows CE handheld PCs. The HP Jornada 690 Handheld PC has 32MB of internal Ram and a built-in 56Kbps v.90 modem.

Cameras coming to CE?

Nogatech announced it has completed a joint development project with JVC, resulting in a Microsoft Windows CE-based computer with an integrated camera capable of capturing and displaying high quality video. In cooperation with JVC, Nogatech developed a new, Windows CE-specific software driver and the first CE handheld digital camera product reference design for its USBvision NT 1003 chipset.

Ilium supports SH4 processor

Ilium Software announced it has added full support for the SH4 processor to their line of Windows CE Handheld PC Professional products. The SH4 processor is featured in the new Compaq Aero 8000 and Hitachi HPW-600ET Handheld PC Professional devices. Both PC Companions use the Hitachi SH4 processor which has a 64-bit instruction set and runs at 128MHz and have a minimum of 16 MB of RAM. Ilium Software has released all their handheld software for this platform including the eWallet and ListPro products.

Handspring’s slow site

Handspring is selling its Visor devices online again, but according to News.com, the site has been slow. Online sales, which were stopped due to high demand, resumed this week.

Certicom, The Edge team up

Certicom and The Edge Consultants announced a licensing agreement. The Edge will license Certicom’s WTLS Plus wireless encryption technology for use with the WAPman microbrowser and WAP gateway. The WAPman browser, currently available for the Palm Computing platform, supports secure wireless applications, such as mobile banking, stock trading, and wireless e-commerce.

Bonita supports Java 2

Bonita Software unveiled one of its enterprise offerings targeted at devices supporting the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition. Bonita demonstrated its ToGo Expense Reports application on the PalmOS platform. ToGo Expense Reports can collect credit card information on the Palm device and transfer it in real time to a server for integration with other enterprise data and major credit card servers.

Windows CE version 3.0

Here’s an article from ZDNN on Microsoft’s next version of Windows CE. The article says that version 3.0 takes a lesson from the Palm OS becuase of its simplified user interface.
