Some 900 Texas schools are using a handheld-to-web version of the state-recommended Texas Primary Reading Inventory, an assessment tool used by classroom teachers to obtain an accurate picture of the reading development of students in kindergarten through second grade. Email that contains content of a sexual nature must now carry the label “SEXUALLY EXPLICIT” in the subject line. The new rule was put in effect by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, with penalties including fines of $250,000 for an individual and $500,000 for an organization, as well as possible imprisonment.
