
Electric Pocket announced the availability of Ringo Pro for the Treo 600 smartphone from palmOne, featuring the new ability to play MP3 ringtones. Ringo enables Treo 600 users to establish customized ringtones for specific callers or groups of callers, and assign photographs for each caller or group.

PalmSource, provider of Palm OS, announced that GSPDA, Inventec Appliances (IAC), and Portable Innovation Technology Limited (PiTech) have licensed Palm OS to design and develop Palm Powered smart mobile devices. As ODM partners, the three companies will provide Palm OS original equipment manufacturer (OEM) licensees with a one-stop solution for bringing innovative Palm Powered mobile products to market faster and more efficiently.

IronPort Systems plans to release new virus-protection and enterprise-management tools for Internet service providers and corporations. The antispam specialist said a new version of its hardware, the C-Series Email Security Appliance, will include early detection on corporate networks of email viruses.

Network security provider Apani Networks announced a VPN client for Windows Mobile PDAs. The Contivity VPN Client for Windows Mobile 2003 affords secure remote-access communication with Nortel Networks Contivity Secure IP Services Gateways. It supports AES/256 encryption, Radius Authentication with user name and password, and RSA Security SecureID.

Symantec has released patches for several flaws in its security products. This week the company issued a bulletin saying it had resolved three high-risk vulnerabilities in the software used in its Firewall/VPN Appliance hardware models 100, 200 and 200R.

Microsoft has filed nine new lawsuits against those it says are responsible for spam, including a Web-hosting company that caters to people who send unsolicited email. With the latest batch of lawsuits, Microsoft said it is involved in more than 100 legal cases against spammers. Those cases include more than 70 lawsuits filed in the United States.
