Beiks LLC announced the new version of its localization kit InterType for Palm powered handhelds. InterType allows users to read and enter data in languages other than the ones provided by the device manufacturer. Currently, it allows adding support for Bulgarian, Serbian, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Russian, Greek and Turkish.

According to a survey of iPod users by financial analysis firm Piper Jaffray, Macs are basking in the reflected glory of the iPod, with some who own the music player saying they have already or are intending to ditch their PCs for Macs. The research found that 6 percent of iPod users have made the switch. An additional 7 percent said they are planning to dump their old PC for an Apple machine, according to the survey.

Safety officials have received 83 reports of cell phones exploding or catching fire in the past two years, usually because of bad batteries or chargers. U.S. phone makers and carriers say most fires and explosions are caused by counterfeit batteries and note that in a country with some 170 million cell phone users, the number of accidents is extremely low.

A self-regulated bi-pedal robot will be presented to the public later this year, developed by a team of scientists from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The 1.2-meter-tall KHR-3 is similar in size with Japan’s Asimo, a top-of-the-line walking robot made by Honda, and weighs roughly 55 kilograms.
