Adobe will begin releasing security patches on a predictable monthly basis next year, according to a spokesperson at the company. Adobe’s manager of secure software engineering, Adrian Ludwig, spoke of the plans at a security roundtable discussion. Adobe has not released an official statement. The monthly security updates will begin sometime next year and are expected to cover most, if not all, of Adobe’s products. Currently Adobe releases patches on an ad-hoc basis.

Palm has appointed Roy Bedlow as vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Bedlow is based at Palm’s EMEA headquarters in Wokingham, UK, and reports to John Hartnett, senior vice president of worldwide sales and customer relations. Palm is aligning its European infrastructure to maximize the market potential for Treo smartphones. The company recently opened a European R&D Centre in Dublin to facilitate the delivery of smartphones tailored to the EMEA market. The European R&D centre is focused on deployment of leading-edge technologies, such as 3G/UMTS, delivered on Palm’s chosen platforms.

Windows OneCare Live, freely available as a test version since Nov. 29, has been found to disable Absolute Software’s Computrace LoJack, an application that functions like a homing device to help recover a laptop after theft. Once installed, Windows OneCare’s flags multiple vital Computrace LoJack files as “Win32NewMalware.B” and recommends that users quarantine the files.
