Random House to digitize thousands of books

With e-book sales increasing rapidly, Random House Inc. announced it is making thousands of additional books available in digital form, including novels by John Updike and Harlan Coben. The publisher currently has 8,000 books in the electronic format and will increase the number to nearly 15,000. The new e-books are expected within months. E-book sales have increased in 2008, thanks in part to Amazon.com’s Kindle reader.
