
CNET News.com reports Handspring plans to announce a sales and marketing alliance with wireless service provider Infowave as part of the handheld maker’s continued effort to crack the corporate market.

Palm has issued a press release stating new, independent studies from three leading market research firms show that Palm handheld computers and the Palm OS platform lead competitors in a variety of ways in the enterprise. Results of recent studies with IT professionals in the United States conducted by IDC, Jupiter Research, and the Yankee Group show that Palm handhelds and the Palm OS are widely deployed in enterprises today and remain on purchase-plan lists, and that Palm delivers what enterprise customers want in handheld mobile solutions.

PalmInfocenter reports IMS and Cahners In-Stat have published separate reports showing that Bluetooth chipsets will outsell 802.11b chipsets this year.

Creative Creek announced RootM, software that turns your Palm OS handheld computer into a complex number RPN calculator. The software has a natural calculator interface that allows you to enter imaginary numbers and access the many scientific functions. Sqrt(-1) or asin(2) are valid computations, producing complex results.

Palm reports that increasingly, the U.S. military is turning to Palm handheld computers to provide logistical support to field forces. From National Guard deployments in Kosovo, to Navy deployments in the Arabian Gulf, the military is using Palm handhelds to improve patient care, data collection, and inspection processes–saving time over previous paper-based methods.

MARGI Systems announced special holiday pricing of $199 on the Presenter-to-Go Springboard Module for Handspring Visors, a 33 percent discount from the regular price of $299. This device allows users to transfer presentations created in Windows printable applications to their handheld device and to preview slides and present them at 1024 x 768. This special runs from December 3, 2001 through January 9, 2002.

Otter Box for Handheld Computers have announced the new Heavy Armor case. Otter Box has long made a range of crush-proof, waterproof hard cases for handheld devices. The new Heavy Armor case features a transparent screen that allows the full use of the touch screen without having to remove the device. The bottom portion of the case is made from clear polycarbonate so the infrared beaming of information and data can still be done while the device is enclosed.

Handwave Inc. released the Poplet Kit 2.1 software for accelerated access to Web information on Palm OS devices. This new release adds a bookmark facility to Clipper, Palm’s Web-clipping browser, for easily revisiting previously viewed Web pages. It also supports a set of Web-based location services, which include getting maps and driving directions directly from address book entries.

Palm, Inc. released its list of November’s top 10 best-selling ebooks from Palm Digital Media. Palm Digital Media offers a fast-growing list of more than 3,000 titles from most major U.S. publishing houses. The ebooks are available for reading with Palm Reader.
