.AUTHOR Anastatia Levari
Welcome to PalmPower Magazine’s Scavenger Hunt. As you probably know, some pretty cool advertisers support PalmPower Magazine. We want to do our best to make sure our readers and our advertisers get together and hang. So that you can spend more time with our great advertisers and hunt around on their sites, we’re offering you the second installment of the Official PalmPower Scavenger Hunt.

The great thing about the ads in PalmPower is that every one is potentially useful to you because every one contains information and solutions especially for Palm handheld users. We often get compliments about them, like the one at http://www.palmpower.com/issues/issue199911/pplte1199002.html.

So, not only do you get a chance to win a wonderfully cool LAVA lamp, graciously provided by AppForge, Inc. (at http://www.appforge.com) you get a chance to learn more about how to get the most out of your Palm handheld. It’s a win-win situation where you get the chance to actually win something.

Upon successful completion of the Scavenger Hunt, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win your very own LAVA lamp. It’s true that PalmPower has a heck of a lot of readers, but if you’re determined to win the groovy LAVA lamp, you probably have a really good shot at it. It’s fun, the odds are way better than being hit by lightning, and it only takes a couple of minutes. What are you waiting for?

.H1 What’s the deal with LAVA lamps?
In 1963, Edward Craven Walker, an engineer, designed the first motion lamp. Walker called his invention the Astro Lamp. By mixing a bit of this and a bit of that, he discovered a hypnotic light, which has made LAVA-brand motion lamps a piece of Americana. Two American entrepreneurs brought the Astro Lamp to the USA after seeing the lamp at a German trade show in 1965. They bought the rights to manufacture the lamp in North America, and renamed it the LAVA-brand motion lamp. The LAVA lamp became a cultural icon of the 1960s and 70s. There’s still only one manufacturer of the LAVA lamp, Haggerty Enterprises (at http://www.lavaworld.com).

.H1 This LAVA lamp brought to you by AppForge
The far-out folks at AppForge, Inc. have kindly donated a snazzy Silver Streak LAVA lamp, pictured in Figure A, to be given out to the lucky winner of this month’s scavenger hunt.

.FIGPAIR A AppForge has donated this psychedelic LAVA lamp as this month’s prize.

The lamp features white LAVA blobs floating in orange liquid, which just happen to be AppForge’s official colors. You might have heard of AppForge. AppForge software was created to solve the difficulties developers encounter in the embedded development industry. AppForge software works with Microsoft Visual Basic to program Palm OS devices. The AppForge management team has more than 50 years of combined experience developing mobile, wireless, and handheld applications. Plus, they’re providing a lucky winner with a LAVA lamp!

.H1 Where do I look for the answers?
The answers to the scavenger hunt, (either an advertiser’s name, product, or information about them), can all be found on our advertisers’ sites. This month’s answers can be found by clicking on the ads on PalmPower’s Home Page, News Page, and Table of Contents page. Any ad on these pages is fair game. Check the banner ads and the mini-banners at the top of these pages, and the blue text ads at the bottom of these pages. The big banner on the Home Page is a rotating banner, so you may have to refresh your browser a few times, in order to see both the ads.

Then, because we’re extra tricky, you may have to do further clicking-around on our advertisers’ sites to find the answers.
