Kinectivity: Now there’s a better way to build custom Palm applications

FROM OUR SPONSOR

By Pencel Corporation

Mobile applications need focus. And often that focus is on enterprise data. Kinectivity from Pencel Corporation (at http://www.pencel.com) allows you to easily build data-driven applications without specialized development resources. In fact, you can create and deploy custom mobile solutions without writing any code.

Kinectivity Studio, pictured in Figure A, is a visual workshop based on the proven component assembly model. You simply configure all the components necessary for a mobile solution rather than building a mobile infrastructure.

Using Kinectivity Studio's drag-and-drop environment, you create the user interface and configure the components of your solution including database model, back-end data integration, and synchronization control.

It's that easy. Kinectivity's power is derived from its built-in data engine and synchronization engine. Deploying Kinectivity applications means your mobile solutions will integrate directly with back-end data sources, enable simultaneous and central synchronization, and provide access through wireless and Internet connections.

Overview

Here's what Kinectivity can do.

Rapid development of applications

Use a single integrated application design environment to build the entire mobile solution including the database model, user interface, business rules, back-end integration, data distribution rules, and synchronization control.

Occasionally connected (offline) computing

The application and a subset or replica of the enterprise data is stored locally on the device for anywhere, anytime access. Transactions are performed when a network connection is available.

Wireless and Internet support

Within your solution is the ability to simply configure the mobile device with an IP (Internet Protocol) address for immediate support of wireless LANs (Local Area Network), nationwide wireless networks, and Internet connections.

Back-end data integration

Using OLE DB (Object Linking and Embedding Data Base) and ODBC (Open Data Base Connectivity), Kinectivity applications can integrate directly with back-end applications and database systems.

Integrated data engine

An integrated data engine allows you to create sophisticated and efficient database applications without writing code, such as:

  • Related tables;
  • Rules-based data validation;
  • Built-in query optimization;
  • Distributed computing including unique record ID generation;
  • Built-in user query interface.

Database record navigation

Kinectivity provides record navigation and linking capabilities within data controls rather than requiring code to manipulate record pointers.
