If you develop enterprise applications for Palm OS handhelds, you’ll be very interested in January’s PalmPower Magazine Enterprise Edition Product of the Month: Kinectivity 2.0.

You may already be familiar with the original release of Kinnectivity. It’s a mobile data application platform with a single visual environment for database, conduit, and forms development, as well as application deployment. The folks at Pencel tell us they’ve added an even more flexible mobile computing architecture for you to build and deliver custom mobile computing solutions.

Kinectivity 2.0 now includes an XML (Extensible Markup Language) server interface and custom controls. These new features enable Kinectivity applications to exchange data with a wider variety of data sources through XML and to be extended with specialized controls built outside of Kinectivity.

A number of other new features have been added in Kinectivity 2.0 as well. These features have been added to provide application developers with more control of the look-and-feel of their applications. The new features include the following:

.BEGIN_LIST
.BULLET Custom forms and menus provide full access to the user interface, including presence and layout of top and bottom bars as well as content and launched commands for pull-down menus;
.END_LIST

.BEGIN_LIST
.BULLET You are now able to apply Quick Actions to various form, control, and table events;
.END_LIST

*Quick Actions, such as "Load Form," "Synchronize," and "Keyboard Pop-up," give you fast access to common functions.

The Kinectivity platform consists of an integrated synchronization engine and conduit and built-in distributed data engine that connects mobile devices directly to back-end data sources. The application tool, Kinectivity Studio, has a configurable component approach that allows you to achieve rapid mobility without writing code. Besides using custom controls, you can extend the platform through Kinectivity’s RoverScript, which is based on JavaScript.
