.SUMMARY Managing editor Denise Amrich shares her love for yoga in this lighthearted journey through the energy centers of the body, or chakras. Learn more about the ancient system of yoga and how you can get the most out of your Palm computer as it relates to the seven chakras
.AUTHOR Denise Amrich
Yoga is a great way to calm the mind and get the in shape. I started doing it ten years ago, and decided to get serious about it within the last three years, due to my need to counteract some of the stresses that come along with doing business in today’s world. I am now a certified Yoga teacher, and I’ve found it to be extremely valuable on many levels, mental, physical, and spiritual.
If you’d like to learn more about yoga, Sunrise Interactive India, Ltd., at http://www.sunriseinteractive.com, puts out Yoga 1.1, a yoga application designed to help you easily understand the yoga positions, called asanas. It instructs you on how to do the asanas, and the benefits of each. Pictures of the various asanas are provided, as you can see in Figure A. Yoga 1.1 is available from PalmGear.com at http://www.palmgear.com.
.FIG A Sunrise Interactive’s yoga application takes you through the asanas.
One of the aspects of Yoga that I find most interesting is the study of the seven energy centers of the human body, or chakras, as they are called. The word chakra is Sanskrit for disk or wheel and originated within the philosophy of the ancient yoga systems of India. Each of the chakras relates to an aspect of living that’s part of our human programming. Each has its own color and interpretation. Being attuned to a specific chakra is said to avoid imbalances and heighten perception. I hope you enjoy this lighthearted journey through the chakras as they relate to your Palm handheld.
Also, in order to illustrate each chakra, I’m pleased to feature YogaZone’s chakra tops, available at http://www.yogazone.com. YogaZone’s chakra tops come in each of the seven colors of the rainbow, and are adorned with beautifully designed, rhinestoned symbols. These ultra-soft 100% cotton tops are crystal washed to achieve their spectacular hues. Long bell-shaped sleeves hang elegantly and the body-contoured shape is quite flattering to most body-types.
Each top comes with its own chakra description. Choose the chakra you would like to work on, or just pick your favorite color. They retail for $44 each and make spectacular Christmas gifts. Words really don’t do justice to how gorgeous they are. Have you figured out that I love these things?
.H1 Chakra one: start with a solid foundation
Chakra one is called Muladhara, which means root. It is located at the base of the spine, and forms our foundation. It represents the element earth and our physical identity, which is oriented toward self-preservation. Therefore, it’s related to our survival instincts, our sense of grounding, our connection to our bodies, and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence. The color red, cedar wood, onyx, ruby, and garnet are associated with chakra one. See Figure B for a picture of YogaZone’s red shirt, which includes the symbol for the root chakra.
.FIGPAIR B Balance your root chakra and prosper.
