Kobe Bryant signed a two-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday that will keep him the highest-paid player in the NBA. The $48.5 million deal has been criticized heavily on social media for its limiting of the Lakers’ ability to add talent to help Kobe win his sixth NBA championship.
Kobe wasn’t having the criticism, taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday night to defend the extension and his motivations for signing it.
Kobe’s advice to young athletes to learn the ins and outs of the business side of sports is sound, and he raises an important point about the limitations of the NBA’s salary cap on the value of the most marketable players in the league.
