4K displays haven’t made their way to the broad consumer market yet we’re all still playing our video games and watching our sports in 1080p. Normally, that would mean mobile device displays are much further off from upgrading to the next-gen resolution, but Vivo’s new 2K smartphone the world’s first 2K smartphone is quickly closing the gap.
As we all know, the human eye is only capable of recognized so much detail. Beyond 4K resolution (and for some of us, at 4K resolution), it’ll be difficult to notice a jump in quality on a standard-sized display. Meanwhile, your 1080p smartphone screen may look much better than your 1080p television, because the size of the phone display is much smaller than the size of your living room TV, and it’s that much closer to your face.
Vivo, a Chinese manufacturer, has now teased its new smartphone, which has a 25601440 display. In true teaser fashion, though, Vivo has not yet divulged any information other than the (fairly useless) graphic seen below to the right.
Among the notable specs not yet released, the diagonal of the display hasn’t been revealed, so we don’t know how big or small the smartphone will be. Considering Vivo is calling the device a smartphone, though, we can surmise that the device will likely not be phablet-sized. Wikipedia classifies this as any device between five and seven inches, but we feel the classification should begin above 5.5 inches.
