Verizon on Tuesday announced a new Dropbox-like app for Android devices that lets users back up and access their files in the cloud.
The app, dubbed Verizon Cloud, will begin rolling out for smartphones and tablets in the coming weeks, the wireless carrier said. Described as a secure storage app, Verizon Cloud backs up photos, videos, music, documents, text messages, and other files from a user’s phone in the cloud. Once data is backed up, it is accessible from any compatible smartphone, tablet, desktop, laptop, or on the web.
The app will also allow for the transfer of “some content” between Android and iOS devices, Verizon said.
In addition, users can back up content from their PC or Mac’s hard drive to their Verizon Cloud using a separate downloadable desktop client. After adding it to Verizon Cloud, that content will be accessible on a user’s mobile device.
