Alaskan cable operator GCI said Thursday that it launched TiVo’s (Nasdaq: TIVO) whole-home platform, which includes the TiVo Premiere DVR and the company’s new Mini companion set-top.

GCI began distributing the four-tuner Premiere DVR to subscribers last year. Adding the Mini to its portfolio lets subscribers access content stored on the Premiere from other rooms in their homes, and could help GCI compete with DirecTV’s (Nasdaq: DTV) Genie and Dish Network’s (Nasdaq: DISH) Hopper multi-room DVRs.
TiVo is also working on integrating its software platform with set-top vendor Pace (LSE: PIC.L). GCI said it plans to offer the TiVo whole-home product to subscribers later this year, using the Pace XG1 gateway, which contains six tuners. Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) is deploying Pace gateways to power its Xfinity X1 service in Boston, Atlanta, San Francisco and other major markets.
