
Yahoo has struck me for a long time as a company that simply has bad luck in things. They’ve not, particularly, done anything wrong over the years nor failed to do a number of correct things. It’s just that they seem not to do these various things when it catches the wave. The wave of either consumer or stock market interest that is.
And the recent announcement over their BlackBerry app seems to be a case in point:
Yahoo app for BlackBerry: On April 1, the app will no longer be available for download. If you have it downloaded, you can keep using it but it will no longer be actively supported and there will of course no longer be updates.
This could be a good or a bad idea. Given their claim that they want to concentrate on their core activities it does seem a fair enough decision. Until, that is, you see the other news that came out on the same day:
