Samsung Electronics’ Android-powered Galaxy Camera will soon escape its mobile carrier shackles and be available in a more affordable WiFi-only model.
Previously available from cellular carriers for about $499.99 (or $599.99 in an unlocked configuration), Samsung is wisely making the Galaxy Camera available to the masses not concerned with an always-on connection.
Now for a shameful confession: When the Galaxy Camera initially launched late in 2012, I dismissed it as gimmicky. However, after heavily using a review unit for the past 3 weeks; I’m enamored and addicted. Touch control feels natural and intuitive and the Android’s baked-in sharing ability and ecosystem bring a lot of extra functionality to the table.
The camera’s Auto-mode will take perfectly good pictures, but it’s the Smart Modes and creative Paper Artist features that have reignited the amateur photographer in me.
