If you're an iPhone 5 owner and have been waiting for a jailbreak for iOS 6, there's some light at the end of the tunnel. Developer @planetbeing tweeted that "the future is looking bright for jailbreaking" and @pod2g followed up with a tweet asking Apple to "release iOS 6.1 now!". iOS 6 is the current version, while 6.1 is currently in beta.

Taken together, both tweets seem to indicate that a solution has finally been discovered that allows a public jailbreak for Apple devices running on iOS 6.1 and above. Current jailbreaks that the developers have uncovered have not been released as they want to keep the exploits used to do so a secret. This is to prevent Apple from patching the exploit when the company updates its mobile operating system.

The tweets also caused some drama on Twitter, where another developer, @i0n1c, tweeted that @pod2g was purposely releasing news of a jailbreak in order to get sponsors to attend a conference. @pod2g had indeed tweeted for sponsors, but @planetbeing jumped to his defence on Reddit, saying that going to conferences meant losing money, regardless of whether it was sponsored, and that if "it was all about the money, I wouldn't go, sponsor or not".

Read also:

iOS 6.1 Release Date: Clock is Ticking (Gotta Be Mobile)

Devil's Attorney for iOS (Australian Macworld)

clasified-ios-65-jailbreak-iphone-5-or-44s-redsn0w31-software-released-hacker ... (New Albany Gazette (subscription))

Explore: 209 additional articles.
