
EAST MARLBOROUGH The early morning trips to distant schools, the late-night training sessions, the heady thrill of winning and the bitter agony of defeat it’s not just for athletes anymore.
Touted as a “sport for the mind,” the FLL that’s, “FIRST Lego League” has all the components of athletic competitions, minus the actual athletics.
But that doesn’t make competitions like the one held on Saturday at Charles F. Patton Middle School any less intense than the final two minutes in a close football game.
And these aren’t the Lego sets they sell in the toy aisle at chain stores competitors in the FLL league create robots from specialized Legos, with the bots programed to perform very specific tasks that are tied to a unifying competition theme.
