<p>Despite nonstop rain, more than 300 runners and walkers of all ages participated in the Superhero 5K, benefitting Keep Kids Connected, held Sept. 29, at the Villagio Town Center.</p><p>Participants raised money for Keep Kids Connected, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to donating netbook computers to sick children in an effort to keep them connected to friends and family while undergoing treatment.</p><p>More than $12,000 was netted through event sponsorships, registration fees and general donations. One hundred percent of the funds will be used to purchase and deliver 48 netbook computers to seriously ill children in and around the Greater Houston area. Some 20-25 applications for computers are received every month.</p><p>To add to the fun, participants were encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero and enter the Superhero costume contest held during the post-race party.
